Old subject, new tack. Why are we discussing sinking a new wreck when we haven't got the ability to launch a boat in Aberdeen to get to the many wrecks we have on our own bloody doorstep. You don't even need to be a tekky to do them. The Glentanner, Archangel, the elusive "bomber" to name some. A new slip would benefit the seafaring community as a whole, not just divers.

Yup, agreed. Aberdeen area has alot to offer but it is a nightmare to launch there. The slip at the roundhouse can only be used at certain tide states which are also poor for slack water. If the council want to improve leisure sports in Aberdeen they should get around to sorting the slip first.

HEAR HEAR
i think its the same pretty much up this coast(stonehaven ecluded)
Even here in Montrose although alot smaller than Aberdeen both "commercial" ports and the lack of public launching facilties is to say the least abysmal

Please feel free to ridicule me for me lack of knowledge on this subject but would it be possible to launch a rib off of Aberdeen or Balmedie beach.
From my diving experiences in Tanzania, Mozambique and S. Africa this was how all the Ribs i was on were launched. Coming in was also an interesting experience as the rib speeded up and beached itself quite a reasonable distance up the beach.

For Aberdeen area launching - has anyone investigated Newburgh - I think there's a slip there and you would have about the same distance to travel to the main offshore wrecks??

There is a jet ski lanching area off aberdeen beach about parrallel to pittodrie, which may or may not allow rib launching. You would have to check with either the harbour or council. Harbour coz their jurisdiction runs from the harbour to Bridge of Don and the council because the own the gates and access points.
